I first worked as an appliance sales team leader at Best Buy from 1986 to 1987, before I started my own business, BIR Construction in 1987. BIR handled residential high-end remodels, everything from small projects to contracts worth $1 million. We were honored to be included in the top 100 remodel companies nationally in 2000. By 2001, the company completed over $6 million in projects.
Diversified Construction recruited me in 2001 to be their residential General and Sales Manager, while also working as an independent consultant. As a consultant, I assisted other construction companies with designing and planning their organized growth. From 2003 to 2008, I worked as the Manager of Business, Sales, Design and Projects at Austin Remodel. In 2008, I met with Todd Johnson, a longtime friend, to discuss his business, Titus Construction, Inc. This was a tough time for the construction industry as the housing market fell apart. I came alongside Todd to help navigate the rough waters of the times. With the help of my wife, Suzanne, and Todd's project manager, Lee Lawrence, we came up with some solutions together and started Titus Contracting. Unfortunately, Todd was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, and we lost him the following year. Suzanne and Lee reorganized the company and I led the charge! I was eventually named the company President. We have grown Titus Contracting from just the three of us doing under $1 million in sales to a team of 30 doing over $6 million in revenue in 2021. |
